Janet Cameron Hagan, 75, of Lewes, DE went to be with the Lord on October 29th, 2017 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after suffering Sudden Cardiac Arrest

one week prior. She was surrounded by the love of family and friends all week and passed peacefully with her children by her side.

Born on January 29th, 1942, Janet was the daughter of the late John R. “Jack” and Jeannette Cameron (Dryburgh) Spates. She was raised in Comus, MD and

graduated from Poolesville High School in 1960. Subsequently, she attended St. Mary’s College of Maryland. In 1965, Janet married Robert Gordon Hagan. They

lived in Kingston, NY for a number of years before returning to Comus. In addition to raising her children, Janet worked for the Montgomery County

Agricultural Center volunteering countless hours while there. For two years she was the President of the Maryland Association of Fairs and Expositions

After Gordon’s death, Janet bought a home with her college friend Susan in Severna Park. There she worked for Long & Foster as the Executive Assistant to

the Regional Vice President until her retirement, at which time they moved to Lewes, DE. She loved the ocean and her Nassau Grove community, where she

was active and made great friends. She enjoyed attending parties in the community, playing Bunco and Bocce, doing crafts, and looking out for her

neighbors, as they in turn looked out for her. She enjoyed traveling, painting, reading, watching football and spending time with family and friends. She looked

forward to her February in Florida and her yearly trip to Maine with the “camping girls.” Janet was proud of her Scottish heritage and loved America. She was a

patriot who was always ready to defend her country and her beliefs.

She is survived by her two children, her son Scott Cameron Hagan of Lexington, KY and daughter Geraldine Kellie and son-in-law Stephen Taylor of Olney, MD.

She was “Yay-Yay” to three granddaughters– Ashley Nicole, Heather Marie and Katlyn Grace Taylor of Olney, MD and one grandson, Justin Cameron Hagan of

Lexington, KY. She also leaves behind her lifelong friends Barbara Lynne “Darling” (Allnutt) Cushman and Mason Gray, dear friend Carolyn Martinez, her loving dog Mugzee and countless others who called her Aunt Jan, Mom and Friend.

She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Gordon Hagan, brother Roger W. Spates, sister Geraldine “Geri” (Spates) Smith, and her dear friend Susan Wilkins.
