Mr. Russell Carson Pope passed away Saturday evening, Jan. 9, 2010, surrounded by family. Mr. Pope leaves his wife of 66 years, Minnie Young Pope.
Mr. Pope, born Dec. 7, 1914, to Carson and Amy Belt Pope, was one of six children.
Mr. Pope was a farmer, still living on part of the Pope family farm where he was born and raised. Very active in farm and church activities, he was a member of the Montgomery County Agriculture Center, a lifetime member of the Agricultural History Farm Park, Damascus Travel Club and the Frederick Moose 371. He sang in the choir at Washington Grove United Methodist Church for 55 years.
Besides his loving wife, he leaves his two sons, Dr. Gary Pope and wife, Carolyn, of Hickory, N.C., and Leland Pope and wife, Rita, of Memphis, Tenn.; grandchildren, Heather Pope, Dr. Katie Pope Egerton and husband, David, Russell Pope and wife, Melissa, and Elliott Carson Pope; two great-grandchildren, Leland Russell Pope, age 2, and Davis Carson Egerton, age 1.
Mr. Pope was preceded in death by four sisters, Irene Pope Edwards, Ruth Pope Frye, Eleanor Pope Luhn and Elsie Pope Ward. He is survived by one sister, Heather Pope Taymen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
