Mr. John Martin “Jack” Mannix, 66, of Rockville, died Sunday, Dec. 13, at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, Rockville.
He was the husband of Carol Ann Mannix.
He was born March 26, 1932, in Washington, D.C.
He graduated from Gaithersburg High School in 1950.
Mr. Mannix was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving 1951 to 1954.
He worked as a fingerprint technician for the FBI from 1954 to 1956. He was town manager/treasurer of Gaithersburg from 1956 to 1959, and worked as a construction estimator for J.H. DeVeau & Son Inc., Rockville, from 1959 to 1966.
At the time of his death, Mr. Mannix was working as a construction estimator for E&M Asphalt Maintenance Inc., Derwood. Prior to that he was an estimator and branch manager for A.H. Smith Asphalt Co., Rockville, from 1966 to 1994.
In 1968, Mr. Mannix formulated an Equal Employment Opportunity & Affirmative Action Program for approximately 350 employees and served as EEO officer for 5 years.
He was president of Montgomery County Agricultural Center in 1984, 1987-88, and 1992.
He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus; a member of the Rockville Chamber of Commerce, and a past officer of Whitehaven Heritage Association.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four children, Patricia O’Berry of Crofton, Susan Poe of Lake Ridge, Va., John Mannix of Mount Airy, and Maureen Grant of Rockville; and six grandchildren.
