Mr. Russell Brown Priebe, 79, of Laytonsville, died Monday, Aug. 3, at Montgomery General Hospital, Olney.
He was the husband of Christine K. Priebe.
Born July 1, 1919, in Dayton, he was the son of the late August W. and Martha T. Brown Priebe.
Mr. Priebe was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, Sunshine.
He was a member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau, and a life member of the Montgomery County Agricultural Center.
He retired as farm manager of “Sundown Hills,” formerly “Pleasant Fields,” after 51 years. This farm had formerly been owned by his family.
After retirement, he still associated with fellow farmers of sod and cattle.
Mr. Priebe’s hobbies included birdwatching, gardening and baseball. In his youth, he was active in horse showing.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Sandra P. Day of Mount Airy, and Gayle P. Andriani and husband Pete of Walkersville; two granddaughters, Bethany F. Geiman and husband Todd of Hagerstown, and Amy B. Foster of Hagerstown; one sister, Anna Mary Owings of Laytonsville; one brother, William Courtney Priebe of Arbutus; 18 nieces and nephews; 26 great-nieces and great-nephews; and three great-great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Priebe will also be remembered by his granddaughter Amy’s special friend, Buddy Morrow of Hagerstown.
Mr. Priebe was preceded in death by one brother, Sylvan A. Priebe and wife Elva.
