Mr. Lawrence Raymond Selzer, 77, of Ijamsville, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, May 5, 2010. He was the husband of Joan Murphy Selzer for 53 years.
Born Oct. 1, 1932, in Washington, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Rose Ann Retzler Selzer.
He was a devoted family man and originator and owner of Selzer Excavating Inc. for the past 52 years. He was an honorary member of the Urbana Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and lifetime member of the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair Center. His hobbies and interests included boating and the water, traveling, farming, blacksmithing and tooling around in his golf cart. He was a former member of the Local 77 Union of Operating Engineers of Washington, and a veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughter, Kim Henry and husband, Matthew, of Kenosha, Wis.; son, Kirk Selzer and wife, Linda, of Middletown; and son, Keith Selzer and fianc?e, Laura Lowe, of Adamstown. Larry was so proud of and delighted in his seven grandchildren, Nichole Henry, Rebekah Guthery, Lydia Henry and Matthew Henry, all of Kenosha, Rebecca Selzer and Caitlin Selzer of Middletown and Michael Selzer of Union Bridge. Also surviving him are dear friends Bruce and Dorothy Kosian of Gaithersburg; one aunt, Helen Furman of Longmont, Colo.; and cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his one brother, William Selzer of West Virginia.
