George Edward Lechlider, 96, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 with his wife by his side. He was the beloved husband of Carolyn R. Lechlider for 40 years. He was born October 26, 1920 in North Potomac, Maryland. He was the son of the late Myrtle and Earle Lechlider. He is survived by his wife Carolyn R. Lechlider and was a loving father to his two sons, Fred Lechlider (Robin S.), Doug Lechlider (Robin W.) and one daughter, Nancy Hitchcock. He was preceded in death by a son, William Lechlider, his first wife, Sara Cunningham Lechlider, and his two sisters, Alice Ogg and Hazel Staley.
He is survived by eight grandchildren: Sara Emilie Lechlider, Kimberly Smith (Kyle), David Lechlider (Kimmi), Matthew Lechlider (Patty), Kevin Lechlider (Cortney), Jimmy Hitchcock (Lori), Jeff Hitchcock (Kelli), and Mike Hitchcock (Ronica), as well as thirteen great-grandchildren and two nephews, Joe Ogg and Eugene Ogg. A special thanks to his caregivers, Cate, Lillian, and Juliana who took wonderful care of him every day. Also, thanks to Dr. Ed Taubman, nurses, Ginny and Regina of the Olney Medical Associates, Dr. Estelle Jean of MedStar Cardiology Associates, and MedStar Montgomery Hospital ICU Nurses and Doctors.
He was President of Montgomery County Farm Bureau for 50 years, a 4-H Leader for 50 years, Superintendent of the Swine Department at Montgomery County Fair since 1949, Secretary of the Sandy Spring Farmers Club for 40 years, Chairman of the Maryland Vocational Technical Education Council, one of the Pioneers of the Montgomery County Fair, Member of Mt. Tabor UMC, Member of Laytonsville Lions Club, and Diamondback Member of the University of Maryland Terp Club.
