Of Laytonsville, Maryland passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016, following a brief illness. She was wife of the late James L. Tessier Sr. who preceded her in death in August 1980.Born July 26, 1927, in Laytonsville, MD she was the daughter of the late Washington W. and Louisa Griffith White.
Dorothy graduated from Gaithersburg High School and the University of Maryland. She was a dedicated Maryland Terrapin fan and attended many Maryland football and basketball games along with ACC basketball tournaments. She was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and help start the Mid Maryland Crescent Circle. Dorothy was very involved in the Laytonsville Chapter of the General Federation of Women”s Club, along with the Ladies Guild of St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church. She also participated in many other activities in the Laytonsville community.
Surviving are three children, sons James L. Tessier, Jr. of Laytonsville, MD and Thomas W. Tessier (Cherie Tessier) of Brookeville, MD; and daughter, Laura V. Tessier of Laytonsville, MD. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Louisa W. Riggs of Brookeville, MD; brother, Washington W. White, Jr. of Germantown, MD; and sister-in-law Barbara H. White of Laytonsville, wife of her late brother, Charles T. White. She is also survived by her grandchildren Katherine Tessier of Woodsboro, Tyler Tessier of Damascus, Kevin Shelton (Laura) of Urbana and Jessica Shelton of Fairfield, PA, and great grandchildren Colton, Christopher, Kaylie, Holly and Chad, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
