Arthur W. Van Why, Jr., 88, of Millersville, died on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, MD after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Thelma M. (Hensley) Van Why, who died on April 13, 2017.
Arthur retired from Verizon in 1985 after thirty-two years of service.
Born August 2, 1929 in Exeter, Berks County, he was the son of the late Arthur W. and Muriel H. (German) Van Why, Sr.
He was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church, Lancaster, where he served on various committees.
A proud U.S. Navy Veteran, Arthur served aboard the USS Coral Sea during the Korean War. He was a member of the Millersville / Manor VFW-Post #7294. Arthur was a devoted sports fan of the New York Yankees, Washington Redskins, and the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Surviving are his two children; Artie, of Millersville and Susan Bloodgood, of Monrovia, MD; grandson; Mark Spencer, of York; granddaughter; Jennifer Arnett, of Hagerstown, MD and four great-grandchildren; Hunter, Ryan and Kaitlyn Spencer, all of York and Logan Arnett, of Hagerstown, MD.
