Participants will hunt for items during the 2016 Montgomery County Agricultural Fair, take pictures of them, and post to Twitter or Instagram with the following mentions/tag @MoCoFair, @CountyCableMoCo. This free and fun scavenger hunt is brought to you by The Montgomery County Agricultural Fair and County Cable Montgomery, the local cable channel that ensures residents have access to open government through video. m.montgomerycountymd.gov/ccm

Wild Cards: 

  1. FINish this contest with a photo.
  2. Be sure not to cut out this photo.
  3. We have a good number of elected officials in our county. So if you recognize one, politely ask to take their picture. The picture has to be with a person at this year's fair. You don't have to be in the picture with them, but it would be nice.

Rules: 

  1. The hunt begins with the first successful post on Twitter or Instagram that fulfills the requirements for posting.
  2. Each participant must capture images of all of the scavenger hunt items listed and satisfactorily post on Twitter or Instagram to be eligible to win a prize. Successfully capturing and posting wild card images are not necessary to be eligible for a prize, but they give you a better chance of winning. 
  3. All pictures must be taken at the 2016 Montgomery County Agricultural Fair. If the judges cannot verify that a photo was taken at the fair this year, it will not be accepted. Duplicate photos do not qualify for additional credit or for other accounts.
  4. Satisfactorily Posting on Twitter or Instagram – Each post on Twitter or Instagram must include the photo, a mention/tag of @MoCoFair and a mention/tag of @CountyCableMoCo. Posts without a photo and both mentions/tags will not qualify.
  5. Each participant must post to his or her own Twitter account. No combined efforts between two or more accounts will be accepted.
  6. A lottery style drawing will determine which qualified participant receives prizes. Entries will not be accepted after 7pm on Saturday August 20th.
  7. Wild Card posts increase chances to win!

Winners:

  • Participants that satisfactorily post all of the scavenger hunt items become eligible for the prize drawings. Daily winners selected by 3pm each day.
  • Participants that post the wild card items will have a greater chance of winning the overall drawing.
  • Winners will be announced August 27th and notified via Twitter or Instagram direct message.
  • Winners of the Grand Prize and First Prize will have until September 10th to pick up their prizes. Winners of the Second, Third and Fourth Prizes may choose to pick up their prizes no later than September 10th or choose to receive them via US Mail. Daily winners can pick up their prizes in the Ag Fair office. Each winner must verify their Twitter or Instagram account.

Facebook Cash Selfie Scavenger Hunt

Object:

To take the ultimate selfie at the Fair.  A $68 cash prize will be awarded daily during the 9 days of the Fair.  Each day, the selfie category will be announced on Facebook at 10am.  A winner will be chosen each evening, announced on Facebook, and notified via email and Facebook.  The objective of this contest is to expand the MCAC's social media presence through photo documentation of the event and contest winners.  

Equipment needed:

Smart phone and the ability to post the picture onto Facebook and send an email to contests@mcagfair.com

How to play:

Fair patrons will have to go to the Official Fair Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/Mcagfair to find out the selfie contest category of the day as it will change daily.  One selfie is permitted per individual and must include the following two mentions to be eligible for the cash prize: #mocofair and #cashselfie as well as send an email with their selfie to contests@mcagfair.com with their First and Last Names in the Subject line, by 8:00pm.  All Facebook posts for this contest must be made PUBLIC for viewing by the Fair Social Media Committee.

Patrons can navigate the Fair website, mcagfair.com, for information and ideas for each daily category.

All participants grant the use of their photo entry for promotional purposes by the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair (MCAC) on our social media outlets including but not limited to, Facebook, MCAC website, Instagram and others to advertise the contest, that we have a winner, and to encourage participation in the contest throughout the duration of the Fair as well as for other advertising purposes in print and online media.

Rules:

NO SELFIE STICKS ARE PERMITTED ON THE GROUNDS. SELFIES MUST BE TAKEN THE TRADITIONAL WAY.

Inappropriate content will not be tolerated and will be deleted from the Fair’s Facebook page if posted.

There will be a daily drawing every night to select the winner.  A Facebook video will be used to announce the winner.  Once the winner is selected we will notify them on Facebook as well as email. If the winner has not responded within 7 days, they will be disqualified.

This contest is for General Admission Fair Patrons who have purchased or have been provided with a complimentary ticket, and is intended to promote the Fair and boost our social media presence in the community. No Fair employee, Board Member, Jr. Board Member, Royalty, Volunteer, Contractor, Life Member, Associate Member, Vendor, Concessionaire, Honorary Member, Exhibitor, Boy Scout Troop 447 member or other person providing services to the Montgomery County Fair is eligible to win the cash prize. 

The cash prize will only be awarded to an individual one time. Participation is encouraged all 9 days, however each individual will only have one opportunity to win.

Each winner will get a check mailed to them for the $68 prize within a week after the Fair ends.


My Best Fair Photo Contest

The Arts, Crafts, Hobbies and Photography Department is holding a special contest, My Best Fair Photo, during the 2016 Fair!

There will be three themed contests during the week:

Theme 1 “Children of All Ages”:  Entries received noon Sunday, 8/14 through noon on Tuesday, 8/16 – Judging the evening of 8/16.

Theme 2 “Fair Flavors”:  Entries received from noon Tuesday, 8/16, through noon Thursday, 8/18 – Judging the evening of 8/18.

Theme 3 “Moovin Around the Fair:  Entries received from noon Thursday, 8/18 through noon Saturday, 8/20 – Judging the evening of 8/20.

One entry per person per contest will be accepted.  Entries will be received in the Arts, Crafts, Hobbies, and Photography building (Building #3) from 12noon to 8pm daily starting Sunday, August 14.  Entrants must come to the building to fill out the entry form and submit their picture which must be in jpeg format only. 

Ribbons will be awarded to the first, second, and third place photos.  A champion for each contest will be selected from the first place winners and will receive a Family 4-pack of tickets to the 2017 Montgomery County Agricultural Fair.

The special contest entries can be picked up on release Sunday, August 21, from 1-4pm.

 


Ice Cream Eating Contest

Join us for our very first ice cream eating contest, sposored and brought to you by Rock Hill Orchard / Woodbourne Creamery!  There will be three contests divided by age: children 5 - 11, teens 12 - 18, and adults, 18 and over.  

The contest will be held Monday, August 15, 2016 at 5:30pm.

Invitational Amateur Cheese Carving Contest

Tuesday, August 16th, 10:30 am, near the Cheese Booth

Free art sculpturing. With a 2 lb. block of cheese you have 30 minutes to carve your masterpiece, come with your ideas. Awards are given out for the most imaginative, finest art, most fair related, etc. – everyone gets a ribbon.

RULES:
1. Number of participants is limited to 15
2. If you would like to participate, call Debbie Malone at 301-972-0063 or email dandrmalone@aol.com.
3. Must be an amateur carver.
4. Fair will provide a block of cheese and some clay carving tools.
5. Entries will be displayed in the Butter House for the remainder of the Fair.


Veggie 500 Races

Sponsored by Butler’s Orchard
Saturday, August 13th, 2:30-4 pm located in the Buffalo Wild Wings KidZone

BASIS OF COMPETITION:
Create and race a car made out of vegetables.

RULES:
1. One entry per individual exhibitor. Groups (such as a family) are also welcome to make a car.
2. Fair will supply car base. Vegetables provided or you may bring your own, such as an ear of corn, potato, cucumber, zucchini or squash.
3. All entries must be assembled at the contest site.
4. Once entries are assembled, race heats will commence. The winners of each heat compete against each other for an overall race winner.
5. Participants under the age of eight must have an adult accompany them.
6. All participants to receive participation ribbons.


Amateur Flower Arranging Contest

Sunday, August 14th, 10AM, Heritage – Garden Room

  1. Limited to the first 25 registrants

All arrangements will be used in the Garden Room of the Heritage for luncheons.

RULES:
1. Use your imagination and color the pictures.
2. Fill in the form above.
3. Take your completed picture to the Fair Office at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds during the annual Montgomery County Agricultural Fair.
4. Entries will not be accepted after the last day of the Fair. A winner will be selected in each of the following age categories and will receive a $25 cash prize.


You Be The Judge: Adult Winter Hats

RULES TO ENTER THE CONTEST

  1. Adult Winter Hats must be made by the exhibitor.
  2. Hats can be Crocheted, Knitted, Felted, Woven, or Sewn.
  3. Hats should be able to fit an adult head.

  5. All entries become the property of the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair and will be donated to local charities.

ENTRY TIMES

Bring your items to the Home Arts Building (top of Building 6) during normal Fair registration hours.
Thursday, August 11 from 2 pm – 8 pm or Friday, August 12 from 2 pm – 8 pm.

VOTING AND JUDGING

  1. General Public voting will be held from Sunday, August 14 through Wednesday, August 17 from 10 am – 9 pm.
  2. Winners will be notified by phone by the end of the day on Friday, August 19.

A special awards presentation will be held in the Home Arts Building on Saturday, August 20 at 7 pm.

A SPECIAL AWARD IS DONATED BY A FRIEND OF THE FAIR TO THE EXHIBITOR WHO DONATES THE MOST ADULT HATS TO THE CONTEST.


Project G Street

New teams, new theme, same prizes!!!

The Home Arts Department will once again host a sewing contest sponsored by G Street Fabrics.

Contest Details:
Teams will pick up contest materials on Thursday, August 11th, and sew at the Fair in Heritage Hall on Saturday, August 13th.

The winning team will earn a $300 gift certificate to G Street Fabrics.

6th Annual Homemade Cheese Contest

Back by popular demand!

Saturday, August 20 at 2pm located in the Home Arts building

The Home Arts Department will host a contest for homemade cheese. All skill levels are welcome to compete. Fresh cheeses must be made with pasteurized milk. Raw milk cheeses must be aged at least 60 days.
Watch the judging LIVE and join us after to taste the cheeses and meet the competitors!

Rules:
1. All toilets must be cleaned and sanitized.
2. Toilets will not be furnished by the Fair.
3. Entries can be pre-registered using the form below and mailed along with your entry fee of $5 to:

4. Entries are open to all residents of Montgomery County and Life Members of the Fair.

8. All entries must be taken to the designated area across from Building 3 on Friday, August 12, from 2 - 8 pm. (Please come to the Fair Office and ask for Lynn if you have any questions.)
9. All entries must be picked up on Sunday, August 21, from 1–3 pm. Any entry not picked up by this time becomes the property of the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair.
10.The committee chairperson reserves the right to refuse any objectionable exhibit.
