Norma H Miller

Mrs. Miller and husband, Carl, were long time supporters of the Montgomery County Fair - each year purchasing art work that is displayed on Chesnut Street entrance to benefit the VIP Children's Day.  They were also very supportive of the 4-H Livestock Program.  

 

Mrs. Norma H. Miller was the wife of Carl L. Miller, of New Market, MD.

 

Born August 19, 1932, in Kreamer, PA, she was the daughter of the late George and Anna Bilger. Norma and her sisters played the clarinet, along with her father playing tuba, in the towns’ band.

 

She always loved march music like John Phillip Sousa’s. She enjoyed traveling and having fun with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

She is survived by sons, Daniel and wife, Susan, Miller of Germantown, and Michael and wife, Marie, of Laytonsville, MD; grandchildren, Joshua Miller of Gaithersburg, MD, Zachary Miller of Silver Spring, MD, Mark Miller of Rockville, MD, James Hand of Woodbine, MD, and Jack Hand; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her father, mother, son, William, and sisters, Jane Butcosk and Georgeanna Knouse.

She married Carl on May 30, 1952, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Kreamer, PA. Norma liked to tell the story about moving 49 times up and down the East Coast as Carl followed his construction jobs.

 

In the 1960s they settled in Rockville, MD. Carl started his own company in 1972, Concrete General Inc., and Norma was the office manager.

Later on, she retired and they moved to a farm in New Market, MD, where she grew lots of flowers and belonged to the Flower Club. They enjoyed making dried flower arrangements to give to others.She and some friends organized the Silver Bells who made stuffed animals for Toys for Tots. They had lots of fun and received awards from the Marine Corps.
