Frank "Marty" Stiles

Mr. Frank Martin (Marty) Stiles, 71, a longtime resident of Damascus, Md., died Friday, May 8, 2015, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. 

 

Born January 8, 1944 Olney, Maryland, he was the son of Frank Clifford and Dorothy Inez Stiles.  He was raised on the family dairy farm in Poplar Springs.  An active member of 4-H, he enjoyed showing Jersey dairy cattle at the local, state and national level.  Travelling to shows with his cattle was a fond memory of his youth.  He remained an active 4-H leader and volunteer during his lifetime.

 

Marty graduated from Glenelg High School in 1962.  Upon graduation, he married Geraldine L. Johnson and began raising his family on the Stiles farm.  Dairy farming was an integral part of his life and he was involved in many local and state agricultural organizations.  He was a lifetime member of the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair, the co-founder and leader of the Damascus 4-H Dairy Club alongside his wife; a past member of the Montgomery County Farm Bureau and the Maryland Jersey Cattle Club.

 

The farming lifestyle was an important part of Marty’s life and he enjoyed working alongside his wife to organize fundraisers benefiting 4-H youth.  In addition to farming, he took great pride in his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

 

He was employed by Montgomery County Public Schools, Pleasant Valley Farms and Pleasant Excavating Company. 

 

Marty was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Geraldine, and his mother and father. 

Mr. Stiles is survived by five children:  Duean M. Stiles and daughter-in-law Dawn D., of Fairplay; Kris L. Stiles of Damascus; Kevin L. and daughter-in-law Lacy W., of Clarksburg, PA.; Alex Ennis, of Union Bridge; and Amy M. Lawrence and son-in-law Sean D., of Mount Airy; and eight grandchildren:  Sully N. Kavanaugh of Mt. Airy; Emily D. Stiles, Brandon D. Stiles, and Luke T. Stiles of Fairplay; Kristen L. Stiles of Hagerstown; John D. Lawrence and Elizabeth L. Lawrence of Mount Airy; and Kip L. Stiles of Clarksburg, PA. He is also survived by his sisters, Johnetta Pruett and Bonnie Chaney and brother Richard Stiles and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
