Mr. Matthew Hamilton Rhodes, 14, of Damascus, died Wednesday, March 21, at Children’s National Medical Center, Washington.

Born Feb. 5, 1987, at Georgetown Hospital, Washington, he was a son of Mark H. and Sharon L. Hilton Rhodes of Damascus.

Matthew was an eighth-grader at Baker Middle School, a member of Damascus Community 4-H Club, Baker Middle School Drama Club and Baker Band. He attended Montgomery United Methodist Youth Fellowship and was a member of the 2000-2001 Montgomery United Methodist confirmation class. He enjoyed horseback riding.

Surviving in addition to his parents are maternal great-grandparents, James and Edna Day; paternal great-grandmother, Virginia Rhodes; grandparents, Robert and Evelyn Hilton and Joyce and Edmond Rhodes; and aunts and uncles, Terry and Gwen Brown, Joel and Gail Hudlow, Sue Hilton, Bobby and Angela Hilton, Kenny Rhodes, Sharon Smith, and Wayne and Kim Rhodes; and cousins, Scott and Kevin Brown, Jesse and James Hudlow, Rachel and Sarah Murtagh, Lindsay Federmeyer, Richard Lewis, and Ashley and Tim Rhodes.

Matthew will also be remembered by his school teachers.

Matthew was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents, Ray and Iva Hilton; paternal great-grandparents, Deets and Fairy Warfield Sr.; and paternal great-grandfather, Edmond Rhodes Sr.
