Thomas A Garrett

Mr. Thomas Alexander Garrett, 82, of Brookfield Manor, Keymar, died Thursday, July 19, 2007, at Lorien Nursing Home of Mount Airy. He was the husband of the late Betty Lou Beane Garrett, his wife of 33 years, who preceded him in death on July 7, 1981.

 

Born in Rockville on July 5, 1925, he was a son of the late Thomas Moore and Anna Braddock Hurley Garrett.

 

Mr. Garrett, along with his brother, owned and farmed Maple Spring Farm of Gaithersburg. They supplied Golden Guernsey Milk for more than 50 years to the Maryland & Virginia Milk Cooperative. After his retirement from dairying, he worked for Harland Shoemaker and Sons Excavating, and lastly enjoyed waiting on customers at the Citgo Gas Station in Poolesville. He finally retired at the age of 78.

 

He was a member of the Rockville Church of Christ, the Montgomery Agriculture Center, and the Upper Montgomery Farmer's Club. He was a 4-H leader of the Montgomery Jersey 4-H Club and a former superintendent of the Montgomery County Fair, as well as served as a director of a number of agricultural boards.

 

Mr. Garrett enjoyed his work, golfing, playing cards and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

Surviving are three children, Nancy Warfield and husband Curtis of Damascus, Donna Myers and husband Jason of New Windsor, and Donald Garrett and Stephanie Robinson of Herndon, Va.; six grandchildren, Debbie Biesel and husband Chris of Fort Lewis, Wash., Ric Stone and wife Shannon of Frederick, Tommy Garrett of Hollywood, Calif., Skylar Garrett of Herndon, Va., Kelly Zepp and husband Gabe of New Windsor, Kristin Myers of New York, N.Y.; six great-grandchildren, Tristan and Nicky Biesel, Charlie and Ricky Stone, Bryce and Kelsey Zepp, as well as a sister, Mary-Margaret Abert and husband William; sisters-in-law Ruth Wilson and husband Alfred of Gaithersburg, and Maxine Beane of Mason, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, H. Ashton Garrett.

 

Mr. Garrett will also be fondly remembered by very special friends, Parker and Janet Kirby.
