Mr. Charles J. "Monk" Savage, 93, of Mount Airy, died Sunday morning, June 27, 2010, at his residence.

He was the husband of the late Irene B. Thompson Savage, his beloved wife of 57 years who preceded him in death in November 1997.

Born Aug. 18, 1916, in Poolesville, he was a son of the late Harry R. and Osie B. Poole Savage.

Over the years he held positions on that board and remained active until recently, when his health began to fail. He and his wife were great supporters of the Montgomery County Fair.

He was also an active participant in the Lions Club, having been named Lion of the Year from 1989 to 1990. He loved and believed in the club and its causes.

In addition to his farming and civic activities, Monk loved to garden, go dancing, and was rarely seen without his dog, Mutty.
