2017 Royal Court

Ten local youth have been named members of the 2017 Montgomery County Agricultural Fair’s Royal Court.  They were selected based on; leadership, involvement in the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair (MCAF), 4-H and their communities and public speaking ability.  The 2016 Fair King and Queen, Patrick O'Hanlon and Jessica Corazza, continue their reign until this year’s Coronation on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 6 p.m.  Coronation follows the annual Fair parade which begins at 5 p.m. at the Fairgrounds.

Xavier Al-Faleh

Xavier Al-Faleh is 18 years old and currently President of Back in Time 4-H.  He has been in 4-H eleven years and taken a variety of projects including shooting sports, woodworking, horticulture, rocketry, citizenship, naval science, and others.  He has belonged to the Back in Time, Clarksburg Helping Hands, Flying Tigers, and Laytonsville Seniors 4-H clubs.  He is a Petty Officer, First Class, in the Gaithersburg High School NJROTC program.

Victoria St. Angelo

Victoria St. Angelo is a 19-year-old resident of Germantown, Maryland. She Graduated from Montgomery College in the spring of 2017 with her associate’s degree in STEM curriculum.  She plans to attend the University of Maryland to earn her Bachelors degree in biological sciences, followed by further education possibly through Medical school. She is a current member of the Howard County beekeeping club, the Montgomery College Tennis club, the Montgomery County and Frederick County Farm Bureau, the Maryland Distiller’s Guild, the American Distiller’s Institute, and the Redland Baptist church choir. She is a previous member and treasurer of the Back In Time 4-H Club. She is also the current president of the Montgomery County 4-H Poultry Club, and a member on the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair Junior Board Of Directors. She has held many projects through 4-H, and her family farm, Projects including Beef Cattle, Goats, Poultry, Honey Bees, Equine, and Horticulture. She assists in the maintenance of two Vineyards an extensive Lavender farm, and over 300 acres of crops including corn utilized in her family’s distillery. She has completed an associates degree in the STEM curriculum, received invitation to the renaissance scholars program was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honors society, and the recipient of the doctor Harry Harden academic excellence award. She was also given the honor of being named Miss 2016 Montgomery County Farm Bureau second runner up, along side her family the 2017 Frederick County tourism ambassadors of the year. She says 4-H has given her endless opportunities, through it she has established life long friendships, obtained critical life skills such as, leadership and communication and discovered her most sincere passion for animals and agriculture.

Annette Bernier

Annette Bernier is 17 years old and is a rising senior at Saint John’s Catholic Prep. Not only a student athlete, she is a member and leader of over 15 clubs and organizations at her school including National Honors Society and Science Olympiad. She is secretary of the Clarksburg Helping Hands Club. Annette has entered a variety of projects including leadership, citizenship, photography, woodworking, and painting. She annually creates her club’s banner for the fair and it has been awarded grand champion every year. This past year she received the Level 5 Diamond Clover and she has received the Gold Level President’s Volunteer Service Award for five years in a row.

Faith Mindy Burton

Faith Mindy Burton is 16 years old and a rising junior in the Science, Math, and Computer Science Magnet Program at Montgomery Blair High School. This is her 11th year in 4-H and she serves as the President of the Montgomery County 4-H Dairy Goat Club, President of the Laytonsville Seniors Club, recent Vice President of the Lucky Clovers Club, and as a Site Manager at the 4-H Adventure in Science program at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Mindy holds projects in Dairy, Citizenship, Leadership, Public Speaking, Foods and Nutrition, and Science. At the Fair, Mindy enjoys showing her dairy goats, entering her cakes into the Cake Auction, and volunteering at the Big Cheese. She was honored to serve as the 2016 MCAF First Princess and was chosen to represent 4-H at Councilman Craig Rice’s Agricultural Summit. She has served as a Maryland State Dairy Judging team member at the national competition in 2016 and won Champion in both the Maryland Dairy Bowl Competition and the Maryland Communications Contest for extemporaneous speaking in 2017. Mindy has also received the Gold Level President’s Volunteer Service Award and the 4-H Citizenship and Community Service Award. With a strong interest in both science and serving her community, Mindy plans to pursue a career in infectious disease as a physician.

Eric Charlery

Hello! My name is Eric Charlery, I am 14 years old, and I attend DeMatha Catholic High School. I am a member of the Lucky Clovers 4-H club. I was born, and currently live in Silver Springs Maryland.  I am excited to serve as a representative at the Montgomery County 2017 fair. I hope to see you there!

Lauren Dallas

Lauren Dallas is 17 years old and lives in Clarksburg. She is a recent graduate of Clarksburg High School. Lauren’s 4-H projects include Animal Science (alpacas, dairy goats, poultry, dogs, and rabbits), Photography, Horticulture, and Foods. She is a Junior Board Member and Associate Member at the Montgomery County Agricultural Center. Lauren is the current Vice President and past President of the Clarksburg Helping Hands 4-H Club and Treasurer of the Montgomery County Poultry Club.  She is also a member of the Damascus Community Club, Rabbit Club, Dairy Goat Club, and Frederick County’s Alpha Alpaca Club. She is the 2017 recipient of the Montgomery County 4-H Senior Leadership Award and received the “I Dare You” award in which she attended the National Youth leadership Conference at Camp Miniwanca. Lauren has competed nationally with the Maryland 4-H Livestock Skillathon team and Poultry Judging team. She is a member of the Maryland 4-H State Council. She competed on Montgomery County’s Dairy Bowl team. She is the 2017 Miss Montgomery County Farm Bureau and is excited to teach others about agriculture. Lauren says that 4-H and the fair have helped immerse her in new opportunities and experiences which have created her passion for agriculture.  

Caitlyn Gardiner

Caitlyn Gardiner is a 15 year old rising sophomore who lives in Damascus. This is her 11th year in 4-H, and she is currently the President of the Damascus Community 4-H Club, the Secretary of the Flying Tigers 4-H Club, and a member of the Montgomery County Dairy Goat Club, as well as the Vice President of Public Issues for the Maryland 4-H State Council. Her main 4-h projects are public speaking, leadership, dairy, aerospace, and healthy living. She represented the Maryland State 4-H Program at the Taste of Maryland Agriculture dinner and the National 4-H Legacy awards. She was also recently selected to represent Montgomery County at the 2017 National 4-H Congress. She has received many awards for her public speaking and leadership skills, including a countywide Leadership Award, a Spirit Award for leading the Public Issue Discussion at the Maryland 4-H State Council Retreat, and a Grand Champion award for a Horticulture Demo, which she will be competing with at the State Fair. Will Rogers once famously said “Even if you’re on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.” Through pushing Caitlyn to pursue all of my goals and constantly improve, 4-H has kept her on the right track and moving forward every day. 

Nate Mayhew

Nate is 18 years-old and lives in Gaithersburg. He graduated from high school at Chieftain Christian Academy this year. Nate is currently a member of the Wild West Wranglers. He was one of the 2015 Montgomery County Agricultural Fair's Princes and 2016 Fair’s First Prince. He was awarded his Associate Membership award for volunteer hours at the Fair. This summer Nate was a part of a team visiting Kazakhstan serving a family who has adopted more than fifty children off the streets. On this trip he experienced the new culture, but most importantly built close and lasting relationships with the orphans he visited. Nate says that both the Fair and 4-H have given him a serving mindset. This mindset enables him to serve with the 4-H motto in mind; using his head, heart, hands and health, to impact those around him.

Anthony Righter

Anthony Righter is 15-years old and lives in Boyds, Maryland. He is the current Vice President and former Treasurer of the Horse N’ Around 4-H club and current President and former Secretary of The Bug Patrol 4-H club of Frederick County. He serves on the Planning and Outreach committee on the Maryland 4-H State Council. He is also a member of the Maryland Entomological Society. His projects include horses, entomology, pets, public speaking, and leadership. He was the Maryland State Horse Communications Champion in 2016 and High Score Individual at the 2017 State Horse Bowl Contest. Anthony will be traveling to Nationals in the fall as a member of the Maryland State 4-H Horse Bowl Team. He enters various projects in the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair, however his favorites are his horse project and entomology project. He is an active volunteer for various events. He volunteers annually for Close Encounters with Agriculture where he teaches thousands of 4th graders about water ecology and biodiversity. Anthony has been awarded the Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award three times with over 700 volunteer hours. His volunteer hours have earned him a Montgomery County Agricultural Center Associates Membership. He has been awarded his level 4 Diamond Clover. His college plans include combining his knowledge and compassion in both veterinary medicine and entomology to improve and preserve agricultural practices. He has learned from the fair and various other events that, “Agriculture is what roots us with nature and we must preserve that root.”

Joey Udovich

My name is Joey Udovich. I am 15 years old and I have just completed my freshman year at Rockville High School.  I live with my father, mother and younger brother in Rockville, Maryland. I have been a member of the Montgomery County Rabbit Club for nine years. I became interested in rabbits in 2008 when I attended the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair.  I bought my first rabbit, a Holland Lop buck, and joined the Montgomery 4H Rabbit Club as a Clover. Now, I am the President of my club and have over thirty-five rabbits.  I raise Netherland Dwarf, Holland Lop and New Zealand rabbits. I compete at the local, state and national level with the Montgomery County Rabbit Judge Team. Last year, I won the senior state rabbit judging contest and came in 2nd at the national level. 


Some of my other interests include competing with the Manor Woods Swim Team and the Tiburounes Swim Club.  At Rockville High school, I compete in swimming and track and field.  I am currently a member of the Montgomery County 4H rabbit club, American Rabbit Breeders Association, American Netherland Dwarf Rabbit Club, Pennsylvania State Rabbit Breeders Association, American Federation of New Zealand Rabbit Breeders and National Capital Rabbit Breeders Association. I hold the Life rank in my Boy Scout Troop 264.  I enjoy baking, camping and sports. I am excited to be a part of the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair Royal Court.
